Curtis became our patron after meeting with Kath Sainsbury and Pete Widlinski at a Show Racism the Red Card event during 2009. His and Kath Sainsbury’s love of football was what initially brought them together!
Passionate about raising awareness of the fight against racism it seemed like a natural progression for Curtis to join us as one of our Patrons and help raise the awareness of the plight faced by those seeking asylum and help raise the profile of Justice First.
Now an integral part of the Justice First Annual Football Tournament, Curtis maintains his position with Justice First and through this and his work with Show Racism the Red Card was awarded the North Eastern BME Award in 2015 for his work with the ethnic minority youth community.
After retiring from professional football in 2005, Curtis has gone on to coach the sport at many different levels with many different clubs including the Republic of Ireland International under 21 Squad, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers. He is now back in the region as Assistant Manager at Hartlepool United.
