J1st Cycle Ride – 19th July 2015
We woke up to a miserable rainy Sunday, but undeterred, a small but determined group of cyclists assembled at the Riverside Stadium raring to get started on the fourth Annual Sponsored Cycle Ride. The route took us along the industrial riverside where we spotted seals and at one point a stoat ran across our path. The cycleway ran through the University site in Stockton and the whole route was a reminder of what a great place Teesside is to live, work and study where industry, wildlife and beautiful scenery are found within minutes of each other.
Heading on through Stockton Town Centre, our Executive Manager and fearless leader Pete led us through the fountain in the High Street – by now the sun had come out, so despite being soaked, we soon dried off.
The final leg was through Preston Park and entering from the industrial estate we cycled through a section that was completely uncultivated and could have been in the middle of the countryside.
We stopped for lunch in the beautiful garden of the Justice First Chair; Barbara Hungin, where she and her husband Pali made us extremely welcome. Unfortunately, some of us felt a bit too relaxed and decided to take the train home, but the more energetic riders continued on the return leg back to Middlesbrough.
Many thanks to all who took part – to Barbara and Pali for their hospitality; to Irene and Chris Roderick who kindly provided a support car and to everyone who has sponsored the riders. Sponsorship is still coming in, and it’s not too late to contribute. We’ll let you know the total amount raised as soon as we know.
