JTI (Justice Together Initiative)
What is the project?
We are part of the Justice Together North East Partnership. The Justice Together North East Partnership is a regional partnership project, creating a Specialist Immigration Advice Hub which works across the North East and is funded by Justice Together.
The Justice Together North East Partnership is a partnership project with a blended approach of advice and support partners including North East Law Centre, working together to provide a holistic service to those in need. The project has created a Specialist Immigration Advice Hub which has broadened the access to Asylum and Immigration Law advice throughout the North East. The project aims to provide holistic support to migrant communities in the North East through the project’s hub model, and sustainably increase access to free immigration advice, ensuring wider capacity across the North East for the duration of the project and beyond. The project consists of advice and support partners, those are listed below:
Advice partners: North East Law Centre, Justice First and North of England Refugee Service
Support partners: Friends of the Drop-In, Open Door North East, Rainbow Home, Action Foundation, West End Refugee Service, International Community Organisation of Sunderland and The Angelou Centre.

Teeside University International Relations applied MA work placements.
We have recently completed our first work placement which ran over a 12-week period, where we, alongside the course leader Dr Ben Lamb, worked together to facilitate the placement for a group of MA level students.
The project aims to provide valuable experience and knowledge to the students, as well as supporting us as an organisation in achieving our goals, by utilising the skills that the students have, including research and advocacy, to create meaningful resources that we can use in the future.
Our first group of students created a comprehensive presentation which covers in detail, the asylum system, and the wider political and legislative changes which have taken place, and consideration of the impacts of these changes on the people who are faced with navigating this complex and hostile environment.
