Since the recent disturbing images of the Syrian refugee crisis, all the refugee charities in Teesside (and the rest of the country/Europe), have had lots of people offering accommodation and support. If/when the 4000 per annum Syrians arrive in the UK, they will be on a funded programme with accommodation and basic support provided by central government. However, as you are aware there are plenty of other refugees/sanctuary/asylum seekers already here in desperate need. A number of us got together to arrange a public meeting to harness the fantastic offers of support we have received from local people, so that people already in the UK, and not necessarily from Syria, can take up these offers. One of the issues to be discussed is homelessness, and Open Door will be suggesting a number of activities that people can get involved with including a hosting scheme.
Please see attached posters for the meeting at the Teesside University’s Centuria Building on Victoria Road, on Monday 19th October 7.30pm – 9.00pm.
